Since the pre-Socratics in Ancient Greece, men have developed tables of values defining virtue through a man’s ability to dominate others. “Real” men, it is commonly thought, must always be in perfect control.
Indeed, Athenian men demonstrated their fitness for public life and the political world by establishing that they could control obedient slaves; before this, they trained to dominate the slaves in their household by learning to master themselves. Archetypal masculinity must present at least a public face of invincibility—a man cannot feel uncertain, emotional, vulnerable, changeable—or feminine.
If this were absolutely true, then it is not clear it would be valuable for a man to cultivate himself by reaching out to a Femme Domme. Can we ask why? I think we are strong enough to ask that. Does it not perhaps take wisdom to know when, and to whom, to cede power?
